Lapland - More Information

“Many know Lapland and its snowy landscapes as the home of reindeer, Santa Claus and the Northern Lights. That’s all fine and true, but Lapland, it’s so much more; it’s a state of mind.”
By Henri for @ourfinland

We would like introduce the Autenthical Pure Nature Culture of LAPLAND, the land where you can find 8 seasons in just a year and exploring the Sami culture as a rich and unique culture of living in harmony with the arctic nature and changing seasons.

“You know, internet, that was the rescue. I’m as connected outside Sundsvall as in New York. It really is possible to live and work in the countryside. Perhaps that’s why I am running these projects to put the countryside in focus.”

The words of Bertil Harström, an architect and designer, but deep down, he is more of an idealist and tree hugger. These projects are not just an architect’s vision and dreams, they are based on a belief that in Sweden, we actually miss something when we do not allow ourselves to build more using wood.

Sámi Jewelry - More Information

In the far north of Europe, ancient sounds, unique craftwork traditions, and a particular language live side by side with modern technology. The Sami culture is the oldest culture in large areas of Northern parts of Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the North of Russia.

Duoddji is the Sami word for “craft”, and many traditions of craftsmanship such as tin embroidery, pearl embroidery, weaving shoelaces, jacket seams, wood carving, and knife-making are assiduously maintained.

In this twenty-first century, Sami culture is meeting the modern world in a new way. The everyday lives of many of these indigenous people appear very modern. The interest in joik, duoddji, and the language itself is increasing rapidly in these areas of Lapland.

Midnight Sun - More Information

“Cloudberries are our gold, they are the taste of summer. Eating them, you can picture yourself back in the swamps where the sun is shining.” said Taisto Illikainen, simply called the ‘cloudberry professor’ with 50 years in the market business. The cloudberry is much more than a passing food fad in Lapland, its appeal has like its ‘superfood’ status: one single berry contains more vitamin C than an orange.
Picking berries, mushrooms and aromatic herbs in the middle of Lapland’s boreal forest can be a very relaxing experience during the Midnight Sun, which is a time when the sun does not set below the horizon at all, day or night. The greatest difference comes from the incredible change in the nature of the light. The sun takes on a reddish-yellow colour – almost like during sunrise or sunset – and everything around you is bathed in an unimaginably warm, bright light.

The Midnight Sun has a curious effect, minimizing the need for sleep and maximizing the possibilities for summer fun: it extends your day with those extra hours you keep hoping for in your daily life. Make use of it and go hiking, canoeing, fishing, playing a round of golf in the wee hours, or just hang out downtown and party until the clubs close.

But we highly suggest a nocturnal swim and sauna: it is a definite must under the Midnight Sun when lakes and seawaters warm-up from June onwards and you can experience incredible landscapes.
